While Carbink may not be the most sought-after Pokémon to hide behind a paywall, the competitive Pokémon Go community is dismayed that it will be locked behind a paywall until after the Pokémon World Championships. Carbink is a meta-relevant Pokémon in the Great League of PvP battles, which is the “official” league for competitive play. In addition to the paywall, players will also need to collect XL Candies to fully level up Carbink for competitive use, making it necessary to purchase a Pokémon Go Fest ticket if they want to have a ready-to-use Carbink for the Pokémon World Championships in early August.
